Housing for Older People

Housing for older people is accommodation that is aimed at people of retirement age. Tenants of this type of housing will have a Sheltered Housing Officer overseeing their scheme whose main duties are to ensure the well being of their tenants and to help them access support so that they may continue to lead an independent life. All units have door entry systems and are linked to a 24 hour call centre so as to maintain tenants' safety and security around the clock.

How to apply

In the first instance to be eligible to apply you need to be aged at least 55 or have a disability. Applications for Housing for Older People can be made in the following ways:

• Applying to be put on the waiting list of either Croydon or Sutton Council, whichever is appropriate, who will then nominate you, depending on your priority, once a suitable vacancy becomes available
• Being referred by Croydon Housing Aid Society who are based at Ground Floor, The Old House, 2 Wellesley Court Road, Croydon CRO 1LE - Telephone 020 8688 7900.
• Being referred by Age Concern who are based at 158-162 London Road, West Croydon CRO 2TD - Telephone 020 8680 5450

For referrals in Sutton area you need to contact Allocations Department, Civic Centre, St Nicholas Way, Sutton SM1.

• If you live out of the area and your landlord is a Registered Social Landlord they can nominate you through the HOMES nomination scheme.
