Harassment
Racial Harassment, Harassment & Nusisance
Croydon Churches Housing Association condemns all forms of harassment, which interfere with the peace and comfort of the individual to the detriment of his/her quality of life.
What is Harassment?
CCHA defines harassment as the deliberate interference with the 'quiet enjoyment' peace, comfort or safety of any person on the grounds of ethnic origin, colour, race, religion or nationality, sex, sexual orientation, or disability. Harassment is unwanted verbal or physical behaviour, which is committed by a person or group of people with the intention of causing distress to another person, family, or group.
CCHA will investigate as harassment all incidents where the victim believes that the perpetrator was acting with such a motive and/or there is evidence of such a motive.
Harassment may include but is not limited to:
- Verbal abuse
- Threatening or abusive behaviour
- Physical assault
- Racist and other offensive graffiti
- Arson or attempted arson
- Malicious complaint
- Noise abuse
- Damage to property or belongings
Harassment must be distinguished from nuisance. Whilst all acts of harassment will be acts of nuisance, few acts of nuisance will be harassment. Nuisance is usually anti-social behaviour committed by people who do not care who suffers, whilst perpetrators of harassment will single out their victim(s). (For example, an owner who allows their dog to urinate outside a neighbour's door would be creating a nuisance; an owner who deliberately took their dog to the neighbour's door would be committing an act of harassment.),/p>
